Volunteer Frequently Asked Questions

To create and provide meaningful financial and credit education to all members of the community.

• increase the number of classes offered and the number of people that receive financial and credit education through our programs in the community
• have additional qualified resources available to teach classes
• provide those dedicated to financial and credit education the opportunity to teach others
• increase the awareness of the services of the Centers, a division of MMI/CCCS, in our communities

• sharing your financial and credit knowledge with the communities to increase financial literacy
• personally impacting your immediate community (your church, school, clubs, employer, friends, family) by providing
• programs that address the need for financial and credit education
• supporting the goals of the Centers to improve the quality of life by helping to empower individuals with knowledge fulfilling Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) credits for financial institutions
• special recognition by your employer or community organization
• special recognition by the Centers including the potential to earn Volunteer of the Year award

• Motivation - be motivated and able to motivate others
• Communication skills - be able to effectively convey ideas through appropriate word usage
• Public Speaking skills - be comfortable speaking in front of a group of people (audience sizes may vary significantly)
• Leadership - be confident as the expert on the topic being presented
• Professionalism - be able to represent the MMI with appropriate attitude and attire
  

• TEACH. Deliver programs as frequently as appropriate for your situation. We suggest you try to deliver at least four per year to stay familiar with the materials.
• BE FLEXIBLE. We understand that you are a busy professional and may not be able to provide a set availability schedule. However, we often receive requests for daytime programs (i.e. schools); therefore we ask that you attempt to make arrangements to fulfill daytime requests whenever possible. We also have evening and weekend volunteer opportunities.
• RETURN CALLS AND EMAILS. It is imperative that you return telephone calls and emails from MMI in a timely manner - we are managing a large group of volunteers while trying to satisfy numerous requests for educational programs.
• REPORT. So that we may accurately report results to our Board of Directors and the National Foundation for Credit Counseling (NFCC), it is necessary that you provide specific information from each class that you have taught. This information typically includes number of participants and general comments about the session. This information is also necessary to illustrate to the community the need for their financial support which allows us to continue providing educational programs at no cost to many segments of the community.
• COOPERATE. MMI will provide program materials. Together, we will make arrangements for acquiring the necessary materials.
• BE PROFESSIONAL. As a participant in this program, you are representing the MMI. We expect that you arrive with sufficient time to prepare for your presentation, teach the curriculum as written, utilize the timeframe allotted, and distribute only those materials provided by Centers.
• REPRESENT THE CENTERS. We ask that you help us create an awareness of the services available through the Education Department, by including that information in each of your presentations.
• PROMOTE. We encourage you to solicit opportunities to provide financial and credit education programs.
• BE RESPONSIBLE. In the unfortunate event that an emergency situation arises and you are unable to fulfill a commitment, please call us as soon as possible.
• NOTIFY. Please notify our Volunteer Education Specialist/Coordinator/Director in your area, if your address, phone number, or email changes.
• CHANGES. We realize your personal situation may change and you may need to discontinue your participation in this program. Please let us know if this occurs.
• IDEAS. We welcome your suggestions and ideas to improve our program.
  
  
  

• Contact you to request your service as soon as possible after receiving a program request.
• Cooperate in arranging the acquisition of program materials.
• Utilize volunteers as often as necessary and in accordance with individual availability.
• Communicate with volunteers.
• Notify volunteers of changes in the program or curriculums.
• Show appreciation to volunteers for the time and expertise they dedicate to education.
• Be accessible to answer questions and provide support.
• Return telephone calls in a timely manner.
• Maintain ultimate responsibility for the coordination of program and presenter scheduling.
• Maintain ultimate responsibility for the promotion of education services.              
• Provide the appropriate training for volunteers who meet the requested criteria.
• MMI maintains a limited liability policy that supports volunteers during the actual act of presentation.
  

• Notify the Education Department of your interest in becoming a CMMV.
• Wait for notification of the next available training session in your area.
• Attend CMMV certification training session.
